Treasure is found in an ancient tomb under Camelot. Gaius is worried that the treasure belongs to Cornelius Sigan, an evil sorcerer and wants the King to have the tomb resealed. A new servant called Cedric attempts to turn Arthur against Merlin. Merlin finds out that Cedric is up to and finds himself being forced to turn to The Great Dragon.

Arthur is determined to win an upcoming jousting competition at Camelot. Gwen challenges Arthur to give up his spoilt ways after he goes undercover with her and Merlin. Myror shows up at Camelot determined to kill Arthur. Arthur is determined to prove himself and win the contest unaware that he is in danger.

Morgana is worried she has magical powers when he nightmares start to become a reality. Merlin is determined to help her even though Gaius is against the idea. Morgana finds herself being reunited with the strange young druid boy Mordred who the Dragon has predicted will be person who ends up killing Arthur in the future.

After Gwen is mistaken for Morgana she is kidnapped by Hengist. Arthur attempts to rescue her and Merlin thinks that Arthur cares about her. Arthur discovers Lancelot has already shown up when he tries to rescue her.

Lady Catrina and her strange servant Jonas arrive in Camelot, where they are welcome to stay by a most delighted king Uther, who becomes captivated by his latest guest. Arthur, on the contrary, far from sharing his father's enthusiasm and in the sight of the flirting going on, is pretty appalled with the situation. Merlin and Gaius have the feeling that she is not what she seems and their suspicions are proven true when Merlin discovers that

Queen Catrina settles into her new role at Camelot and her influence over Uther increases. Merlin is forced to go Merlin tries to expose Catrina without being caught and break her hold over the kingdom.

During his interrogation, Gaius admits to have treated Morgana. When asked, Morgana admits that Gaius had treated her for nightmares. Aredian permits Morgana to leave but asks if she knows what was in her potions, and that they could possibly be of magical content. Morgana admits that her nightmares had become worse since she was being treated; leading Aredian to awaken Gaius with the news that he, along with Morgana and Merlin, would die together

In the aftermath of the incident, Geoffrey of Monmouth is unable to find any rule that states a woman cannot issue a challenge, and by the knight's code, Arthur is obliged to fight. Arthur is confident, but Uther warns him not to underestimate her. Morgause's presence also seems to unnerve Morgana, who claims to have a vague recollection of her.

When Merlin discovers by chance a beautiful Druid girl called Freya trapped in a bounty hunter's cage, he feels like he has to do something about it and despite Gaius' advice not to get involved, he goes with his instincts and helps the girl escape. The young warlock can't think of a better place to harbour the girl than the tunnels beneath Camelot, but it would be a short remedy since the bounty hunter won't resign to lose his prize and will conduct a frantic search for her and a fierce magical beast has been reported to be on the loose. As Merlin's friendship with the Druid girl grows in intensity, it is tested to the limit by the adverse circumstances and the boy is forced to make a heartbreaking decision in his struggle to keep Freya safe..

The visit of some Camelot rival kingdoms' dignitaries comes disguised as a tricky peace talk, while King Alined really means war. In that light, he'll do his best to stir the waters and make hostilities arise, no matter if it involves the use of magic. Trickler, Alined's jester, casts a spell on Arthur making him fall madly in love with Vivian, King Olaf's beloved daughter. This outcome, considered a belligerent act, triggers the odds between both rival kings.

To fight Uther, however, Alvarr must reclaim the Crystal of Neahtid – a precious magical relic of the Old Religion. Few can harness its power, but Alvarr believes Mordred can use it to further their cause. The crystal is safely locked up in Uther’s vaults and many have lost their lives trying to reclaim it. Alvarr, though, has a secret weapon – Morgana’s powerful bond with the druid boy.

After taking a sword from a Knight, an artefact of the Old Religion, Merlin returns to the Great Dragon. He asks what the Dragon's intentions are once released, but the Dragon cryptically replies that there is only one road he can take. Merlin asks the Dragon to promise to not harm Camelot, but the Dragon simply replies that he believes enough bargains have been made.
